Ross Castle & Muckross House

Yesterday, Mike went golfing at Dooks Golf Course. He drove off as the sun rose and returned around 10:30. Since I didn't go with him, he has some pics on his camera and not on the iPad...so we will add those to this post later when we get home.

While he was gone, I had breakfast at the B&B. They made wheat and egg free pancakes for me! They were so delicious. It was just a gluten free flour blend mixed with masked banana and milk. I'll be using banana in my pancakes from home as my egg substitute now...way better than applesauce!

When Mike returned, we went up to the town of Killarney and took a 40 minute tour of Ross Castle. It was really fascinating.  Basically the family home was a tower, so each room was on a new floor. There were many defensive features to the tower to keep invaders out. The castle had been restored about 20-30 years ago, but the castle itself was from around the 1400s, I think. I'll have to check on that! We weren't allowed to take pictures of the inside.

A little river just before we reached the castle.

We went back to Muckross House after the Ross Castle tour. The reason we went back to Muckross House was to take a tour of the inside of the house. However, just like in Ross Castle, we were not allowed to take any photographs. We were able to see most of the rooms inside the house. It was actually a hunting lodge at one time, as it sits on a bunch of land. In fact, long ago, the house was built (or bought for) a woman whose parents also own a house outside of San Francisco. That house is now a museum, too, and was used in filming some scenes from the TV show Dynasty. This was all according to our tour guide, and American expat from Montana. :-)
